Do you want to become a writer?

Do you want to become the next J.K. Rowling, Stephen King or Nora Roberts? Perhaps John Grisham, maybe Danielle Steele, Tom Clancy, or even Agatha Christie?

Do you imagine waking up whenever you like, then walking to your home office to start your work day. No commuting, no paying for expensive gas, no more wasting time in rush hour traffic, on cramped buses or crushing subways. No more bosses spying on you, screaming for you to produce more, forcing you to do someone else’s work, stay late, or fetch them coffee. Because you’ll be your own boss, your home will be your workplace, and your work will be whatever you decide it should be.

You can do it

There’s no doubt that it can happen, but there is also no doubt that it is harder than ever to get published these days. To approach a major publishing house with an unsolicited manuscript is unheard of anymore. You must have a literary agent. And, even if you find one that will take you on, the chances that they will be able to sell your manuscript to a major New York City publishing house are still not looking good. Review the facts:

Frank Herbert, creator of Dune, the greatest science fiction series of all time, was rejected by over thirty publishers before finally being picked up by a small, university press. Eventually after Dune proved itself a hit, a major publishing house picked up the series. Herbert went on to write many best-sellers, and also inspired George Lucas to create Star Wars. But, if not for a lucky break as he neared the end of his patience he might never have been heard of at all.

Tom Clancy spent a year of his lunch hours as an insurance salesman writing The Hunt for the Red October. His efforts were rejected by every major publishing house he approached. Finally, in desperation he turned to a small publisher, the Naval Institute Press. They decided to publish the book which as we all know became a huge bestseller, one that landed Clancy a contract with a New York City publishing house. He, of course, went on to write more books, most of them turned into movies, all of them topping the New York Times bestseller list.

How can you make money at the greatest job in the world?

Two veteran authors, Bruce Gehweiler and C.J. Henderson, tell you how they have sold every word they have written since 1999 and why they are so busy they actually now are being forced to turn away writing assignments from editors and publishers. You too can become that busy as a fiction writer; you too can enjoy the best creative career imaginable. As both these authors say; "if it can happen to us, it can happen to anyone!"
